FAQ

We offer a free consultation from a diamond expert that can answer all your questions, but here are some common facts and FAQs about Lab Grown Diamonds.

How Are They Grown?

Lab-grown diamonds begin with a real diamond seed, placed in a specialized chamber and grown using two methods: High Pressure and High Temperature (HPHT) or Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD).  The diamonds produced through this process have the same chemical, physical, and optical properties as mined diamonds.

Can Anyone Tell the Difference?

Even experts can’t distinguish between mined and lab-grown diamonds just by sight—they’re both genuine diamonds! Identifying the difference requires advanced, specialized equipment. The only exception lies with lower-quality lab-grown diamonds, where shortcuts in the growth process result in color tinges and growth lines.

Why Are Lab-Grown Diamonds More Affordable?

Though not inexpensive, lab-grown diamonds offer a more budget-friendly option compared to mined diamonds. Producing them requires sophisticated equipment that costs millions, but this expense is far lower than the enormous investment needed to extract diamonds from the earth.

Do Lab-Grown Diamonds Hold Their Value?

Not likely—but neither do mined diamonds. When reselling a mined diamond, you can typically expect to receive 40-60% of the original purchase price, assuming market conditions remain stable. The loss on a mined diamond may be less than the total cost of a lab-grown diamond! And the savings from choosing lab-grown can work in your favor. If invested wisely, those savings could generate returns that more than cover the cost of the diamond over time.

Do Lab Grown Diamonds Have Flaws?

Yes, they do!  Imperfections can be caused by impurities in the chamber or blips in the growth process. As with mined diamonds, flawless lab grown diamonds are rare.

Do Lab Grown Diamonds Last Forever?

Absolutely! Just like mined diamonds, lab-grown diamonds maintain their brilliance, clarity, and color over time. With proper care and cleaning, they’ll shine as radiantly as the day you bough them.

Do Lab-Grown Diamonds Scratch?

No, they don’t. Lab-grown diamonds share the same physical composition and crystalline structure as mined diamonds, making them equally resistant to scratches.

Are Lab-Grown Diamonds Available in Different Colors?

Absolutely! Just like natural fancy-colored diamonds, lab-grown diamonds come in a wide range of stunning hues. The most popular are yellow, blue, and pink, but you can also find them in shades like green, purple, and orange. These colorful gems provide a cost-effective way to bring bold, creative jewelry designs to life.
