Top Rate Diamonds of Atlanta Owner Discusses Lab-Grown Diamonds in Interview on The Weather Channel

Owner Tal Nudelman Amazes On-Air Talent With Information About Sustainable and Attainable Lab-Grown Diamonds

Diamonds have long symbolized love, luxury, and timeless elegance. Yet, the way they are sourced is changing as consumers learn more about the environmental impact of traditional mining methods. During a recent interview on The Weather Channel, Tal Nudelman, owner of Top Rate Diamonds in Atlanta, shared why lab-grown diamonds are a great choice for many of today’s buyers.

Here’s the full interview video; alternatively, you can skim the key points in our outline below.

The Environmental Toll of Diamond Mining

Traditional diamond mining comes at a significant cost.

“Mining is just overall a dirty business,” Tal explained. “We use heavy equipment, big machinery and explosives. The machinery spews carbon into the air, and the explosives can loosen up sulfur oxides that mix with the water and air to create more pollution.”

From air and water pollution to deep land disturbances, mining often leaves permanent scars on the environment.

Lab-Grown Diamonds: Same Beauty, Less Impact

Fortunately, technology now enables us to create diamonds in a laboratory that are chemically identical to those mined.

“There is another option now called lab-grown diamonds, which are much better for the environment,” Tal said.

Lab-grown diamonds begin with a tiny “diamond seed” and are grown using two methods:

  • High Pressure High Temperature (HPHT): mimics the conditions deep within the earth.
  • Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD): separates carbon from heated gases and deposits it layer by layer onto the seed.

This process creates diamonds with the same brilliance and durability as those mined from the earth. In fact, Tal noted that one company he works with even makes carbon-negative diamonds by pulling carbon directly from the atmosphere.

Can You Tell the Difference?

Lab-grown diamonds are visually indistinguishable from mined diamonds.

“Good luck telling the difference,” Tal laughed. “Even experts can’t tell by just looking. They’re graded the same way as natural diamonds, and clarity ranges from I1 all the way to flawless.”

The only reliable way to identify them is by a tiny laser inscription on the girdle.

The Price Advantage

For many couples shopping for engagement rings in Atlanta, price is a key factor in their decision.

“This earth-mined diamond retails for about $20,000,” Tal explained during the interview. “The lab-grown is probably somewhere between four and five thousand.”

That means buyers can save up to 75% while still getting a diamond that sparkles with the same brilliance.

Custom Creations

Lab-grown diamonds also allow for unique possibilities.

“We’ve done custom shapes before—angels, Christmas trees—you name it,” Tal shared, amazing his interviewers.

This flexibility opens the door for personalized jewelry pieces that are as creative as they are beautiful.

Why Atlanta Couples Are Choosing Lab-Grown Diamonds

Lab-grown diamonds are more sustainable, cost less, and look identical to mined diamonds. For couples in Atlanta seeking the perfect engagement ring, lab-grown diamonds offer an ethical, affordable, and timeless choice. Like the lifelong commitment represented by an engagement ring, diamonds are forever.

When asked about durability, Tal’s answer was simple: “Forever. They are forever.”
